Arab Countries Reach Out to South Korea

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar are discussing the purchase of air defense systems with South Korea. The authorities of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar have approached South Korea with the aim of acquiring anti-aircraft systems. According to the Wall Street Journal, this decision is linked to a significant reduction in the stockpiles of American-manufactured surface-to-air missiles, prompting the Arab nations to seek new suppliers.

The reduction in military supplies is a consequence of the active defensive actions taken against drones and missiles launched by Iran. This situation has highlighted the substantial dependency of Gulf states on the United States and potential problems related to arms replenishment.

As an alternative to American weapons, the South Korean "Cheongung-II" (M-SAM) systems are being considered. These systems are regarded as attractive due to their rapid deployment capability and economic affordability. The goal of ongoing negotiations with the South Korean side is to ensure stable defense of regional airspace.
