This Year, the Risk of Frost Damage Has a Different Scenario
In the Ararat Plain and Yerevan, temperatures have not exceeded 20 degrees Celsius this year, while during the same period last year, temperatures ranged from 20 to 25 degrees. Under these conditions, late blooming is expected, which reduces the risk of frost damage.
This was stated by the Deputy Director of the Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center during a press briefing on spring flooding and expected weather conditions.
In the period from January to March 2026, precipitation in certain regions of the Republic reached four times the normal amount. In the southern slopes of Mount Aragats, specifically in the Amberd-Aragats area, precipitation was recorded at 468% of the normal level.
The Deputy Director mentioned that recently, Armenia has been under the influence of a powerful cyclone, resulting in continued heavy precipitation. In some areas, 50-60% of the expected April rainfall has already been recorded within two days.
He noted that the snow cover in the country is quite high. Snow is falling in Lori, Tavush, Shirak, the mountainous regions of Aragatsotn, Kotayk, Vayots Dzor, as well as in certain parts of Gegharkunik. The highest snow cover has been recorded at the 'Aragats' high-altitude meteorological station, measuring 311 cm.
