Netanyahu Gives New Mandate on Lebanon Issue
Israel will not cease its strikes in Lebanese territory but is prepared to reduce their intensity, considering the position of U.S. President Donald Trump, reports The Wall Street Journal, citing its sources.
The American administration has not yet requested Israel to scale back operations against the Hezbollah group; however, it expresses concern that the ongoing strikes could hinder negotiations with Iran and complicate efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that he has mandated the rapid initiation of direct talks with Lebanon. According to the Axios portal, meetings are planned to take place next week in Washington.
It is noted that both sides will present at the ambassadorial level in the U.S. The Israeli Kan broadcasting company has also reported that the organization of the negotiations is contingent upon American pressure.
