Court Decision: Measures Against Garegin II to Be Lifted, Lawyer Says
As you know, the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia (investigator Ara Avagyan) made a decision on February 14, 2026, to impose a travel ban on the Supreme Patriarch of All Armenians. This was reported by lawyer Ara Zuhrazyan on his page.
“Due to this ban and the investigator's refusal to permit temporary travel to Georgia, the Supreme Patriarch was unable to attend the solemn ceremony of the funeral of His Holiness Ilia II, the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia. The decision made by the investigator was appealed to the superior prosecutor. The Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia (prosecutor Khachatur Galstyan) decided to reject the appeal. Following the prosecutor's rejection, an appeal was submitted to the court. Today, on April 10, 2026, the first instance criminal court of general jurisdiction in Yerevan (judge Ani Danielyan) made a decision to uphold the appeal of the Supreme Patriarch's defense. Based on the court's decision, the measures imposed against the Supreme Patriarch of All Armenians are to be lifted,” he wrote.
