VIDEO: The Draft to Allow Payment for Military Service Exemption Should Not Be on the Agenda, Gegham Manukyan
During today's session of the Permanent Commission on Defense and Security of the National Assembly of Armenia, the draft law proposed by Prosperous Armenia faction member Hayk Sargsyan regarding "exempting military service for a fee" was discussed again. Once again, it was rejected, failing to receive the approval of the commission.
“It is unacceptable to introduce a distinction based on payment within the armed forces,” said Gegham Manukyan, a member of the Armenia faction, noting that such regulation could lead to serious divisions within families, among relatives, and friends. “We continue to hold the view that this draft should not enter the agenda,” Manukyan added.
It is worth mentioning that although Hayk Sargsyan's draft was approved by the government meeting, it was thwarted in parliament, facing opposition from both opposition and ruling party members.
