Turkey’s Vice President on Possible Opening of Borders with Armenia

The process of normalizing relations with Armenia is assessed in Turkey as a phased and mutual trust-based process. This was stated by Turkey's Vice President, who noted that a number of practical steps have already been taken.

According to him, some progress has been recorded in this framework, including the restoration of railway communication, the introduction of an electronic visa system, and the increase in the number of flight connections. He also referred to the project for the restoration of the Ani Bridge, including it among the ongoing topics of cooperation.

According to Turkey's Vice President, the opening of land borders between Armenia and Turkey, as well as between Armenia and Azerbaijan, could become one of the most concrete outcomes of peace and normalization processes in the region. He claimed that technical preparatory work continues in this direction, and the necessary infrastructure is being formed.

He also mentioned that recent steps taken within the framework of Armenian-Azerbaijani dialogue contribute to the acceleration of overall normalization. In the Vice President's assessment, the deepening of ties between Armenia and Azerbaijan can also lead to a quicker normalization process between Ankara and Yerevan.
