Russia Imposes New Restrictions on Armenia
The Russian Federation has announced that stricter requirements have been established for products supplied from Armenia. Complaints regarding the plant and veterinary products supplied from Armenia, which arose several years ago, continue to persist. A potential solution to the issue could be the integration of information systems within the framework of the EAEU, ensuring product traceability, stated Sergey Dankvert, head of the Rosselkhoznadzor.
“The range and quantity of products coming from Armenia suggest that not all of them have Armenian origins. We have addressed this issue in both 2024 and 2023,” Dankvert noted. According to him, the problem is related to the illogical increase in supplies, which is linked to simplified procedures for entering the market within the EAEU.
“For example, over the span of three years, Armenia has increased flower shipments from 36 million to over 100 million. There has also been growth in other types of products. We had to move phytosanitary inspections closer to the border. We also observed that a large quantity of products sent to Russia did not reach their intended destinations,” said Dankvert.
He asserted that regulations have been implemented for a long time, resulting in a significant number of quarantined products being recorded. He noted that more than 900 quarantine commodities are being identified in Armenia, complicating the work further.
Speaking about the supply of livestock products, he emphasized that some of the delivered goods might also not be of Armenian origin. According to him, these circumstances have led to the application of stricter requirements for shipments from Armenia.
