Starmer Responds to Trump's Threats
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, has responded to U.S. President Donald Trump's statements that Washington may withdraw from NATO, describing it as an attempt to exert pressure on allies. He emphasized that the alliance continues to be one of the world's most effective military units, which has provided stability in security for decades.
Starmer stated that the United Kingdom is fully committed to NATO and will continue to be guided by its own national interests, regardless of external pressures or political statements. He noted that any decisions would be made based on the country's security and strategic priorities.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that London will continue its close cooperation with European countries in areas of defense, security, and economic development. In this context, the coordination of joint actions at the regional level is essential.
At the same time, a recent report from the UK Parliament's Joint Committee on National Security Strategy indicates the need to develop a clear plan with European allies to strengthen the European role in NATO. The authors of the document also call for investments in the development of the country's own defense capabilities, considering the potential scenario where Europe may not be able to rely on U.S. support in crisis situations.
