After War with Iran, the U.S. Will Reassess Relations with NATO, Rubio

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has proposed during discussions with G7 partners to engage them in an international initiative for security in the Strait of Hormuz following potential military actions against Iran. This was reported by Axios, citing its sources.

The source stated that Rubio emphasized the United States does not need partners' support for the strait's opening, but Washington is interested in G7 nations joining an international maritime coalition in the future phase.

It was noted that the discussions involved possibilities for both escorting vessels and ensuring a maritime international presence in the region. This move, according to the U.S. side, aims to demonstrate that the Strait of Hormuz is not under complete Iranian control.

He also indicated that the U.S. would reassess its relations with the North Atlantic Alliance after the war with Iran. “NATO is useful for Washington as it allows for the deployment of troops and military equipment outside the borders of the United States, but if the alliance is limited to just the United States protecting Europe, while Europe refuses to allow Washington to use bases in case of need, then it is not a good deal,” Rubio stated.
