US Proposal for International Control of the Strait of Hormuz

The US administration has put forward the idea of establishing an international framework for the management of the Strait of Hormuz. According to The Daily Telegraph, the initiative was presented by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a meeting of foreign ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) countries, citing diplomatic sources.

The initiative aims to ensure free navigation through the strait without additional charges. At the same time, an alternative option is under discussion, which proposes involving Pakistan, Egypt, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia to establish transit fees similar to the Suez Canal model.

The report also addresses reports of escalating tensions in the region. It notes that at the end of February, the US and Israel began military operations against Iran, prompting Iranian authorities to announce retaliatory measures and restrict access through the strait for certain countries. This information is presented through various sources and has not been independently verified.

According to the publication, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on March 25 that several countries, including Russia, India, and China, have received permission to pass through the strait.
