Tensions in Hormuz Escalate, Maritime Traffic Decreases by 95%: UN
Following the onset of military operations by the United States and Israel against Iran, daily ship movements through the Strait of Hormuz have sharply decreased by more than 95%. This information was reported in a UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) report.
According to the document, maritime traffic in the strait is effectively paralyzed. Such a drastic drop in transportation flows has led to disruptions in the supply of energy resources and fertilizers.
The report highlights that the situation worsened particularly at the beginning of March, when the number of ships passing through the strait did not exceed ten per day. This is a significantly low figure for this strategic waterway, which is vital for global trade.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most important hubs for international energy transportation, and limitations on navigation there directly impact global markets.
