Turkish Star of 'Knock on My Door' Arrested in Drug Case

Turkish actress Hande Erçel, wanted in connection with a drug-related case, has been arrested upon her arrival at Istanbul Airport. She is set to undergo drug testing, according to Cumhuriyet newspaper.

"Famous actress Hande Erçel returned to Istanbul on Friday. She was arrested at the airport and has already given testimony in court. She has now been transferred to the forensic medicine department for drug tests," the newspaper reported.

Businessman Hakan Sabancı, also arrested in connection with the same case, stated that neither he nor his former girlfriend, actress Hande Erçel, have ever used drugs, as reported by Sözcü newspaper on Thursday.

The court decided on Thursday to remand four of the 14 individuals arrested on drug-use suspicions, while two others were placed under house arrest. The rest, including members of one of Turkey's wealthiest dynasties, the Sabancı brothers, were released with a ban on leaving the country.
