SATM Reports Violations in "Arzni" Brand Eggs
In anticipation of the Easter holiday, the State Service for Food Safety of Armenia (SATM) has been conducting oversight of the egg production and sales market for some time, with comprehensive results to be published soon.
However, during inspections, SATM inspectors discovered irregularities in the packaging of eggs labeled "Iodized Arzni" from "Arzni” poultry factory LLC (production expiry date 24.03.2026, Category 02) in the sales network. These irregularities included inserts with copies of findings from the State Veterinary and Sanitary Laboratory, indicating that the eggs did, in fact, contain permissible levels of iodine. It has been reported that the laboratory has not received any batches of "Arzni" eggs for testing iodine content in 2026, and no such report has been issued to the producer.
Furthermore, the insert that misled consumers reportedly features a signature from an individual who has not worked at the laboratory since May 2023. A report on iodine content was issued to the producer on November 19, 2025, but is presumably outdated as the batch has likely already been consumed or expired.
Additionally, all reports provided to producers explicitly state that they may not be partially reproduced or distributed without proper permission, which was not requested, making the publication of the report illegal.
A sample was taken from the mentioned batch (24.03.2026, Category 02) and sent for laboratory analysis regarding iodine content. The results will be made public.
Eggs from the "ARZNI" brand have also been found to lack freshness. In the scope of the monitoring measures conducted by SATM inspectors at the "Arzni” poultry factory, testing results from sampled eggs (produced on 23.03.2026, Category 01, with a shelf life of 25 days at 0-20°C) indicated that the samples did not meet the standards set for first-class table eggs according to HST 182-2012 (with porous shells, translucent, cloudy whites, unelastic yolks, and noticeable odor).
A directive was issued to ban the sale of the product, withdraw it from the market, and to destroy or process it accordingly, as stated in the message released by SATM.
