Prosecutor's Office to Appeal Acquittal of Former Foreign Ministry Employee

The Prosecutor's Office will file a cassation appeal against the acquittal verdict of a former Foreign Ministry employee accused of state treason. This was reported to Auroranews by the spokesperson for the Attorney General, Arevik Khachatryan.

Earlier, lawyer Abgar Poghosyan wrote on his Facebook page: “Thus, the Yerevan City Court of General Jurisdiction (presided by Ani Danielyan) announced a verdict in the case of Ashkhen Aleksanyan, an employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, according to which Aleksanyan was ACQUITTED of the charges against her under Article 418 of the RA Criminal Code (imprisonment for 15-20 years or life), in other words, the charge of state treason.”

It is recalled that on June 20, based on a notification received from the National Security Service, a criminal case was initiated by the Investigative Committee for actions relating to state treason by an employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including creating conditions for familiarizing a representative of a foreign state with information containing state secrets and providing assistance in carrying out hostile activities under the features of parts 1 of Article 418 and 1 of Article 424 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
