Ashkhen Aleksanyan Acquitted of State Treason Charges
The case has unfolded with allegations of unjust public condemnation, dissemination of photographs, violation of the presumption of innocence, and the circulation of information unrelated to reality. This was stated by lawyer Abgar Poghosyan on his Facebook page.
“Thus, the Criminal Court of First Instance of Yerevan (presided over by Ani Danielyan) handed down a verdict in the case of Ashkhen Aleksanyan, an employee of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who was charged under Article 418 of the RA Criminal Code (imprisonment for 15-20 years or life). In other words, Aleksanyan was ACQUITTED of the charge of state treason. According to the Court, her actions also fell under Article 441, part one of the RA Criminal Code (maximum imprisonment of 4 years). Although the defense will also appeal the verdict in the appellate criminal court, we would like to express our special thanks to the Court for its impartial, objective, and fair examination,” he wrote.
It should be reminded that on June 20, based on a report from the National Security Service, the Investigative Committee initiated criminal proceedings under the 1st part of Article 418 and the 1st part of Article 424 of the Criminal Code, concerning the commission of state treason by an employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia for creating conditions for a foreign representative to access information containing state secrets and providing assistance in conducting hostile activities.
