Kanaz Cultural House to Be Restored While Preserving Architectural Appearance, Says Mayor's Spokesperson

The Kanaz Cultural House, which was returned to the city of Yerevan by court decision in 2024, had been under private ownership since 2017. The building was owned by the Arts Alphabet cultural foundation, which had failed to make the promised investment of 480 million AMD over the span of ten years, leaving the building in a state of disrepair.

Artyom Karapetyan, the spokesperson for the Mayor of Yerevan, stated on his Facebook page, "After the restoration of community property rights, reconstruction work on the cultural house had not yet begun, and periodically, violators broke in, smashed locks, and caused damage to the building, after which the doors were locked again. Fortunately, the facade of the building was not damaged by fire; the roof and interior finishes were predominantly affected."

He added that under the new project, the dilapidated building would be restored and repurposed while maintaining its architectural profile. The mission will remain the same: to serve as an educational platform that will return hundreds of children to a modern and inclusive cultural and scientific educational space. The new concept is based on the idea of creating a STEAM center, which will be a multifunctional platform integrating science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
