No Restrictions on the Use of Armenian Airspace for Azerbaijani Civil Aircraft, Says Aviation Committee
In light of recent unfounded speculations regarding the use of the Republic of Armenia's airspace and the implementation of transit flights through Armenian airspace, the Civil Aviation Committee has deemed it necessary to clarify this issue. The statement reads:
“In accordance with the provisions of paragraph b) of Article 9 of the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation, which states that no member state of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) can apply discriminatory approaches to the use of its airspace, the Republic of Armenia has not imposed any restrictions on the use of its airspace for any country, including Azerbaijani civil aircraft.”
“According to the legislation of the Republic of Armenia and internationally accepted procedures, every commercial international transit flight through the Republic of Armenia's airspace is carried out according to the flight plan submitted by the airline, and there is no need for any agreements between ICAO member states.”
“If any limitations were to be imposed on the use of the Republic of Armenia's airspace, such information would be published through established channels (NOTAM). Any information regarding international transit flights conducted through the Republic of Armenia's airspace (the aforementioned flight plan) is provided by the civil aviation air traffic service to the relevant authorities of the Republic of Armenia,” the statement concludes.
