Preschool Admission Age Limit to be Reduced: Proposal

The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports has developed a proposal suggesting that preschools be allowed to admit children aged 4 to 6. This means that, instead of only 5-year-olds, now 4-year-old children will also have the opportunity to attend preschool.

This statement was made by Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan during a session of the National Assembly, where she presented the relevant proposal for the first reading.

According to the minister, this is an important decision, especially for urban areas where there are long waiting lists for preschool enrollment, leading to children being unable to engage in the preschool education process at an early stage.

“I emphasize that in all communities where the preschool is the only institution providing preschool education, which means there are no kindergartens in those areas, we plan to allow children aged 3 to 6 to attend preschool. This will provide a more flexible and alternative means to support those communities where there are few preschool-age children, ensuring they are not excluded from education,” she stated.

The second amendment relates to the accreditation process, with plans to establish a unified standard that will expand the pool of certificate holders.
