Ombudsman's representatives conduct unannounced visit to 'Armavir' penitentiary: details undisclosed
The Office of the Human Rights Defender has issued a statement: 'By the instruction of the Human Rights Defender, representatives conducted an unannounced visit to the Ministry of Justice’s “Armavir” penitentiary. During the visit, representatives of the Ombudsman’s institution held private discussions with individuals deprived of their liberty, including those on hunger strike. The situation regarding the protection of their rights was examined, including the right to health care, as well as the relevant documents and conditions of detention.
The issues raised by the individuals deprived of their liberty were discussed with the administration of the penitentiary. The details of the visit are confidential and subject to non-disclosure. The findings will be summarized, and necessary clarifications will be requested from the competent authorities regarding the identified issues. Measures have already been taken regarding the resolution of some problems. The protection of the rights of individuals deprived of their liberty is under the direct attention of the Human Rights Defender.
