Iran Warns of Acid Rain Following Oil Storage Explosions
The Iranian Red Crescent has warned the population that explosions at oil storage facilities could lead to acid rain, according to RIA Novosti.
"The explosion of oil storage facilities releases a large amount of hydrocarbon toxic compounds, sulfur, and nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere. If it starts to rain during that time, it becomes very dangerous and possesses strong acidic properties," stated the country's emergency services.
They noted that such phenomena could lead to chemical burns on the skin and cause serious damage to the lungs.
In light of this, the Iranian Red Crescent advised against going outside after an explosion at oil storage facilities if precipitation occurs, and if one must be outdoors, to seek shelter.
According to the rescue workers, if rainwater droplets fall on the skin, that area should not be rubbed, as it can facilitate the penetration of chemical compounds into the skin. It is necessary to wash the area with water.
