War Erupts Between Pakistan and Afghanistan
Afghanistan's armed forces have initiated operations in response to Pakistani airstrikes, announced Khalid bin Walidi, spokesman for the 201st Army Corps. "Counterattacks by Afghan government forces against Pakistani troops began at 8:00 PM local time in the eastern Afghan provinces of Nangarhar and Kunar. Already, three enemy positions have been seized," he told RTA national television.
According to the spokesman for Afghanistan's Ministry of Defense, the operation has commenced in several directions, including Khost, Paktia, Nuristan, and several other regions.
Pakistan's air force has conducted airstrikes on areas in Afghanistan's Nangarhar and Paktika provinces. The bombings have occurred during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. A spokesperson for Afghanistan's supreme leader, Zabihullah Mujahid, reported that dozens of civilians, including women and children, have been killed and wounded. According to the country's Ministry of Education, a madrasa has been destroyed, resulting in the deaths of five students: three boys and two girls.
