Migration Historical Records in the USA

In 2025, the number of people leaving the United States exceeded those arriving in the country, resulting in a migration decrease of nearly 150,000 individuals. This information has been reported by The Wall Street Journal, referencing data obtained from various countries. The last time such a situation was recorded was during the Great Depression.

The federal authorities do not publish official statistics on emigration, so the estimates are based on data from residence permits granted to Americans in over 50 countries, real estate purchases, and enrollments in educational institutions. In 2025, the volume of immigration decreased from about 6 million in 2023 to between 2.6 and 2.7 million. That same year, approximately 675,000 forced deportations and 2.2 million 'self-deportations' were recorded.

According to various assessments, the number of U.S. citizens living abroad ranges from 4 to 9 million. Large communities have formed in Mexico, Canada, Great Britain, and several European countries. In recent years, the rate of U.S. citizens settling permanently in almost all European Union countries has reached record levels, with some states seeing increases of several hundred percent.

Analysts attribute the reasons for emigration to the rise of remote work, the increasing cost of living in the U.S., and growing dissatisfaction with social conditions. At the same time, several countries are encouraging the relocation of Americans through special programs, and the market for services supporting emigration has seen significant expansion.
