Hovhannes Tamamyan Arrested in March 1st Case

The Investigation Committee of Armenia's Special Investigation Division has confirmed that H.T., the first deputy head of the Criminal Intelligence Main Department of the Armenian Police, on March 1, 2008, ordered police officers to beat E.A., a participant of the rally taking place in Freedom Square, without any justification.

Following this order, police officers acted outside the scope of their official powers and inflicted severe physical violence on E.A., hitting various parts of his body with their hands and feet, causing serious harm with life-threatening consequences.

Based on the factual data obtained during the pre-investigation, public criminal prosecution has been initiated against H.T. under the third part of Article 309 of the Criminal Code, adopted on April 18, 2003 (incitement to exceed official powers).

H.T. was arrested on February 25, 2026, to be presented to the court. The investigation is ongoing.
