EU Has Created a Monster in Ukraine That Will 'Swallow Them First': Zakharova

The only thing lacking for Ukraine's accession to the European Union is nuclear weapons, speculated Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, in a joking tone. “In that case, everything will fall into place,” she stated.

According to the diplomat, if Ukraine acquires nuclear weapons, it would lose any sense of fear of the law. Zakharova noted that in such a scenario, Ukrainian authorities would no longer request or demand weapons for the Ukrainian armed forces but would “simply direct them straight and place them at the doors of EU institutions and start counting backwards.”

Zakharova added that the EU does not understand it has created a monster in Ukraine that will “swallow them first.”
