Iran Aware of Potential Failure in Negotiations, Says Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that Iran is interested in reaching an agreement with Washington and is aware of the possible consequences of failing to do so. According to him, the parties are on the brink of important negotiations.

In a conversation with reporters, Trump noted that Tehran, in his estimation, does not wish to face negative developments if a deal is not struck. At the same time, he characterized Iran as a difficult negotiator but expressed hope for a more constructive approach during the process.

The U.S. President also emphasized his intention to participate in the negotiations in an indirect format.

The second phase of U.S.-Iranian consultations is scheduled to take place today in Geneva and will relate to Iran's nuclear program. The discussions occur against the backdrop of Washington announcing an increase in its military presence in the Middle East, while Iran has indicated its willingness to compromise on certain issues.

The Iranian delegation will be led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, while the U.S. side will be represented by Special Representative for Iran, Stephen Mulloy. It is worth noting that the previous round of talks took place on February 6 in Muscat, Oman, mediated by that country. This meeting marked the first after a months-long hiatus due to the escalation of the Iran-Israel conflict anticipated in June 2025 and the involvement of the U.S.
