New Rules Established for Foreign Broadcasters – Mikitar Hayrapetyan
The National Assembly of Armenia approved on March 5, 2025, the law proposing amendments and additions to the "Audiovisual Media Law," after which the second package of amendments to the same law was submitted for circulation. Last week, the majority of deputies supported the first reading of the latter, and it will soon be presented for a second reading in the National Assembly. This was announced during a press conference by Minister of High-Tech Industry Mikitar Hayrapetyan.
"In the second package of amendments, we have also addressed the content of the broadcast, its proper oversight, and established responsibility for networks and broadcasters when presenting community content related to violence, subversion of constitutional order, and similar acts that are punishable under the criminal code. For foreign broadcasters, new rules of the game have been established in cases of interfering in the internal political life of Armenia," he noted.
Hayrapetyan added that they expect the law to be fully adopted and come into effect in the coming months during its second reading.
