It Is Unacceptable for There to Be Chaos in the Management of HEDC, Says RPEA President
No, the loans taken by HEDC do not factor into the electricity tariff. This was stated by the President of the Regulatory Authority for Energy and Water Supply (RPEA) Mesrop Mesropyan in response to a journalist's question during a press conference.
“Mr. Papoyan, besides being the Minister of Economy, is also a political figure, and he has given a political assessment to the phenomenon, in the sense that the HEDC, a closed joint-stock company, is critical infrastructure, and it is unacceptable for there to be chaos in terms of financial and technical management, especially regarding issues of financial migration. According to our established methodology, the interest on the loans taken does not factor into the tariff,” he noted.
It is worth mentioning that various representatives of the government had previously stated that the loans taken by HEDC and their interest rates are included in the electricity tariffs provided to consumers, and that citizens pay for the loans out of their own pockets in the form of higher tariffs. Earlier, the RPEA president also mentioned that people’s electricity bills have decreased by 3,000-5,000 drams.
