We Made a Mistake Regarding the War in Ukraine, Fico Says
Western countries supporting the continuation of the conflict in Ukraine are afraid to admit they made a mistake in choosing this strategy, said Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
“For some member states, it is very difficult to say, ‘We made a mistake regarding the war in Ukraine.’ After all, the strategy was clear: a short time after the conflict in Ukraine began, there was a ready agreement on the table in Istanbul that could have ended the war. But some Western politicians, mainly from Europe, came forward and said, ‘Don’t you dare do that,’ believing that this war strategy of supporting Ukraine through sanctions and loans would weaken Russia politically and economically,” Fico stated following negotiations with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Bratislava.
“Now we all know that this strategy is not working, but those countries that initially supported this strategy do not have the courage to say, ‘Enough,’” he added.
