Azerbaijan's Natural Gas Exports to Serbia Will Increase
Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev stated that the export of natural gas to Serbia, which began some time ago, will increase, during a press conference in Belgrade with his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vučić.
He noted that Serbia offers favorable conditions for investments. According to the Azerbaijani news agency "AzerTaj," a ceremony for the signing of Azerbaijani-Serbian documents also took place in Belgrade with the participation of both presidents.
The statement mentions, "A signing ceremony for Azerbaijani-Serbian documents took place in Belgrade with Aliyev and Vučić. The parties signed an agreement on food security as well as on the design, construction, and management of a gas turbine power plant in Serbia. They also signed memorandums on cooperation in the fields of economy, media, culture, sports, and healthcare."
Previously, Aliyev and Vučić held a bilateral meeting in Belgrade, followed by the first meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council between Azerbaijan and Serbia. In 2025, Azerbaijani gas exports to Europe are expected to amount to approximately 12.8-12.9 billion cubic meters. Direct supplies to Germany and Austria began in January 2026, resulting in the total number of European importing countries reaching 16, including Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, and Serbia.
Serbia receives up to 400 million cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan, which satisfies about 20% of Serbia's natural gas needs. Earlier, Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov stated that gas supplies from Baku to Belgrade could reach one billion cubic meters by 2026.
