Trump May Withdraw from Ukraine Negotiations
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, is expected to focus more on the upcoming U.S. election campaign in the coming weeks, which could push the issue of Ukrainian resolution to the background, writes the American magazine The Atlantic, suggesting that Washington may withdraw from the negotiation process.
According to the publication, “In the coming weeks, as the U.S. election campaign increasingly occupies Trump's attention, he may decide that the negotiations have become a political failure. He may then withdraw from them, blaming the stubbornness of one or both sides of the conflict for the diplomatic failure.”
Earlier this week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia is ready to pursue a negotiated solution to the Ukrainian crisis, based on understandings achieved during the Alaska summit between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, including a resolution of the conflict's root causes in the form of threats to Russia's national security.
