Kondjyan's Brother Sentenced for Major Fraud

«Jamanak» newspaper has investigated the criminal case materials regarding Hayk Kondjyan's brother, Avet Arseni Kondjyan, published in the Datalex judicial information system.

Case Proceedings and Charges

According to official information, the criminal case was initiated on December 25, 2009, by the investigative department of the Kotayk region of Armenia. On December 28, 2009, a decision was made to involve Avet Kondjyan as a defendant under part 3 of article 178 of the RA Criminal Code (fraud in especially large amounts).

The court's decision states that the defendants acted "by prior arrangement" and "fraudulently appropriated" the victim's funds.

Specifically, the judicial act mentions that the money was demanded "under the pretext of selling a property" and "abusing the trust of A. Mkrtchyan".

Admission of Guilt in Court

The case was examined in an expedited manner. The judicial act published in “Datatex” literally states that the accused Avet Kondjyan declared: "I submitted the request voluntarily, consulted with my defender, I understand the consequences of conducting a trial in an expedited manner, the charges against me are clear, I agree with the charges, and I fully admit my guilt". This means that the charges were not only brought but were also fully accepted by the accused Kondjyan.

The newspaper's journalist contacted Avet Kondjyan for a comment on the legal case, the admission of guilt, and his current position. However, he declined to speak and did not provide any clarifications.

Facts with References

The material, according to the investigative site “Hetq”, mentions that the private house located at 7/19, Arinj B neighborhood of Abovyan community belongs to Hayk Kondjyan and his wife Shushan Aleksanyan; they purchased it in July 2024 for 54 million AMD, which is significantly lower than its market value.

According to the same source, the real market value of the residence is estimated at about 75 million 600 thousand AMD, meaning that the price at which the deputy bought it is about 21.6 million AMD lower than current market prices. Kondjyan has denied this several times, of course.

Sources also note that the company selling the private house, “Milun Mining” LLC, has connections with the Kondjyan family; the director of that company is Avet Kondjyan, who is also mentioned in the fraudulent criminal case recorded in “Datalex”.

Currently, the RA Anti-Corruption Committee is examining the issue of Hayk Kondjyan's purchased private house; it is hoped that this case of significant fraud will not be neglected, especially since the brother of the chairman of the CPP faction had connections with the developer of the purchased house, as Kondjyan himself mentioned in a written clarification provided to “Jamanak” newspaper.
