A $5+4 Billion Project Without Tariff Calculation: Shoigu on American Proposal
During a visit to Armenia, American officials announced that they would spend $5 billion on the construction of a nuclear power plant and an additional $4 billion on its maintenance. However, they were unable to provide even an approximate cost for the energy produced per megawatt-hour. This was stated by Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, Sergei Shoigu, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"This deserves special attention. If we are talking about NuScale Power's modules with a capacity of 77 megawatts, then it was precisely the high cost of energy that led to the failure of its project in Utah. Even in the preparatory phase, the cost increased by 1.5 times, and the planned energy production price rose from $58 to $89 per megawatt-hour, which resulted in its shutdown in 2023," Shoigu noted.
The Secretary of the Security Council of Russia emphasized that these figures were mentioned only at the planning stage, and the final cost would be significantly higher.
