Poland Has Doubts: Will Not Attend Peace Council Meeting

Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced that Poland will not participate in the first meeting of the Peace Council initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump, citing doubts regarding the scope and objectives of the council.

Speaking before a government meeting, Tusk confirmed that the Polish embassy in Washington received an open invitation to the council's first meeting, scheduled for February 19 in the United States. The invitation was addressed to either the President or the Prime Minister of Poland.

“This is a moment when we need to clearly state that under the current circumstances regarding the principles, legal status, and main objectives of the council, including the reconstruction of Gaza, Poland will not join the Peace Council,” Tusk said. “We will continue to monitor the situation with flexibility and openness.”

Tusk emphasized that maintaining strong relations with the United States remains a priority for Poland’s foreign policy. He added that Warsaw does not rule out the possibility of joining the council in the future if conditions change.

“If the President decides to participate in the meeting on February 19 in the U.S., he will receive comprehensive informational materials from the government regarding further steps,” Tusk stated.
