Initiation of TRIPP Project's Technical and Economic Assessment: Details from Pashinyan
In the coming days, we will share our observations regarding the draft agreement related to TRIPP with our American partners. The draft agreement will be based on the implementation framework established by the governments of the two countries, which in turn is grounded on the declaration of August 8.
This was announced by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a Q&A session at the National Assembly-Government, while also informing that the technical and economic assessment of the TRIPP project has commenced.
According to Pashinyan, cooperation in the field of nuclear energy continues as well. There are dialogues with several partners in this regard, and a decision will be made in favor of the project that best aligns with Armenia's interests.
The next critical issue is related to border management. Pashinyan reported that he had a working discussion with the Minister of Internal Affairs today, and it has been proposed that from the moment biometric passports are operational in Armenia, expected in the autumn of 2027, contactless passageways will begin to function at airports and all checkpoints. This means that citizens holding biometric passports will be able to board aircraft, exit, or cross the border without contact.
“What is needed for this? It was necessary for the U.S., which possesses these technologies, to share them with us. Yesterday, I discussed this topic with the Vice President of the United States and received assurances from our partners that these technologies will be shared with Armenia. I also thank the U.S. Vice President for this. Prior to that, I thanked the U.S. President, with whom we signed a memorandum of intent on August 8 in Washington regarding the development of the 'Peace Crossroads' project, which emphasized support for border management,” he said, noting that this concerns the provision of technical means, which are cutting-edge precise devices, and expressed hope that the Armenian side would have them by the end of the year.
