This is Important for Armenia: Aliyev's Statements

The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has stated that the transit through Azerbaijan holds "exceptional significance" for Armenia. According to Azerbaijani media, during a meeting with a delegation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on February 9, Aliyev emphasized that the development projects for transportation connectivity create vast opportunities for the region.

"The development projects for transportation connectivity create great opportunities for the region. Despite the fact that we were the target of Armenian aggression and occupation for 30 years, it is Azerbaijan that has taken the first step toward peace. We offered peace to Armenia, and peace was established with the support of President Trump on August 8, 2025. And now we have not only removed all restrictions on cargo transit to Armenia, since Armenia lacks reliable transport and communication routes, and transit through Azerbaijan holds exceptional significance for them, but we have also started supplying petroleum products to Armenia to lay the foundations for cooperation," said Aliyev.

He noted that Azerbaijan will never become a battlefield but will be a space for cooperation. Aliyev mentioned that relations with the United States are entering a new phase, and Azerbaijan is interested in establishing direct connections between companies.

He emphasized that Azerbaijan plays a crucial role in ensuring the energy security of numerous countries, ten of which are members of the European Union, and eleven are also NATO members. According to Aliyev, Azerbaijan is becoming a more significant partner for these countries.

The Azerbaijani president also stated that this cooperation could benefit countries facing a lack of reliable sources of electricity and gas. He noted that one of the ongoing projects pertains to the construction of new power lines from Azerbaijan to Europe via a cable running under the Black Sea, as well as within the framework of the TRIPP project. Aliyev mentioned that this project became possible after the establishment of peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
