Sweden Does Not Hide That Its Military Modernization Is Directed Against Russia

The Swedish authorities do not hide that the initiatives for the modernization of the armed forces of the kingdom are directed against Russia, said Sergey Belyaev, Russia's ambassador in Stockholm, in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"Sweden is rapidly implementing a deep and comprehensive modernization of its armed forces... At the same time, Sweden does not even see the need to hide the fact that all these initiatives are directed against Russia," the ambassador stated.

The head of the diplomatic mission added that the "total defense" program for 2025-2030, approved by the Swedish parliament, envisages a significant increase in defense spending, investments in fundamentally new types of weapons, and substantial changes in the structure of the national army. The ambassador reminded that Swedish authorities have also announced an increase in the number of conscripts and a transition to larger military units.
