Support for Prime Minister in the UK Amid Calls for Resignation

British government ministers have expressed their support for Prime Minister Keir Starmer in the wake of calls for his resignation due to a scandal involving former British ambassador to the US Peter Mandelson and financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Scottish Labour Party leader Anas Sarwar called for a change in leadership from Downing Street in light of the Mandelson scandal. However, Starmer's office ruled out any possibility of his resignation amid the scandal.

“We must not allow anything to divert us from our mission to change Britain, and we support the Prime Minister on this matter,” said Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy on social media.

Finance Minister Rachel Reeves stated on social media that Starmer's government is “changing the country for the better” and that “restoring Britain takes time.”

“This weekend, Keir Starmer will head our delegation at the Munich Security Conference. At this crucial moment for the world, we need his leadership both at home and on the global stage, and we must focus on what matters—safeguarding our country's security,” said Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.

“In January, an unfinished website briefly appeared, claiming that Angela Rayner was running a campaign for leadership of the Labour Party, which sparked new speculation that the former deputy prime minister might be plotting to oust Keir Starmer,” the newspaper reported.

Bloomberg, citing its source, reported that Starmer discussed the resignation issue amid the scandal involving Mandelson and Epstein. Prior to this, some Labour Party MPs had called for his resignation. The office of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has ruled out the possibility of his resignation in light of the Mandelson scandal.
