Zelensky Ready for Elections: Reuters
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is open to holding elections and is confident in his ability to win, reports Reuters, citing its sources. It is noted that although his public support has somewhat decreased since the start of the war, Zelensky continues to maintain a rating above 50 percent.
According to the agency, during negotiations held in Abu Dhabi, Ukrainian and American delegations discussed the possibility of holding elections and a referendum simultaneously. The agenda for the referendum is expected to include a peace agreement, should one be reached as a result of negotiations.
Five officials reported that during discussions, the American side proposed organizing these events in May. According to the agency's sources, Washington has put forward a relatively tight timeline, emphasizing the need for a swift organization of the process.
It is noted that the proposed deadlines may be unrealistic. Their estimates suggest that preparing for the elections and referendum requires significant time and organizational resources. One source mentioned that the American side is 'rushing too much', which could complicate the full implementation of the process.
