Trump's Scandalous Video Shocks the United States
A video released by U.S. President Donald Trump the day before, depicting former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, as monkeys, has sparked strong reactions and criticism within the American political arena.
Republican Senator Tim Scott, the only Black senator in Congress from his party, has called on Trump to remove the video from the Truth Social platform. He wrote on the X social network that the video is one of the most racist materials he has ever seen and should not be associated with the White House.
Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has also criticized Trump, accusing him of racism and intolerance. He stated that Republicans must publicly condemn the president's publication. Several Democratic congress members and senators have expressed similar sentiments, directly accusing Trump of racism.
The White House, responding to the criticism, stated that the issue pertains to a satirical video circulating online, where Trump is depicted as the “king of the jungle,” while Democrats are represented as characters from the movie “The Lion King.” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre urged a focus on issues affecting the American public.
California Governor Gavin Newsom's office has also condemned Trump's publication, calling it unacceptable. Criticisms have similarly come from Democratic Congress member Herb Konaway and former advisor to Barack Obama, Ben Rhodes.
