Russian Troops Help Repel Terrorist Attack on Niger's Capital Airport
According to the press service of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a terrorist armed attack on the airport of Niger’s capital, Niamey, and a nearby base of the Nigerien Air Force has been successfully thwarted.
Reports indicate that the attack was repelled through joint efforts by the Russian Defense Ministry's African Corps and the Nigerien armed forces. During the operation, approximately 20 militants were neutralized, and their belongings and munitions were seized.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, around 40 militants participated in the attack. The responsibility has been claimed by the Islamic State terrorist group, which is banned in Russia.
Details of the incident and potential consequences are currently being clarified. Nigerien authorities and the Russian side emphasize that cooperation will continue in the direction of ensuring the country's security and neutralizing terrorist threats.
