Former U.S. President and Hillary Clinton to Testify in Epstein Case

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton and 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton have agreed to appear before the House Oversight Committee and provide testimony in the case against convicted financier Jeffrey Epstein, according to Reuters.

The Clintons had previously refused to testify before Congress, expressing a willingness to cooperate but declining to appear in person. They claimed that the Oversight Committee chairman sought to conduct proceedings for political motives that were "literally designed to jail us."

The Oversight Committee has recommended charging the Democrats with contempt of Congress, which could lead to criminal prosecution. The maximum penalty for this offense could be up to one year of imprisonment and a $100,000 fine.

According to the NYT, the House is expected to vote in a few days on holding the two Democrats in contempt of Congress. Reuters reported that House Speaker Mike Johnson, who welcomed the news of the couple’s agreement, did not clarify whether the legislative body would abandon the planned vote.

During questioning, Epstein declined to answer questions regarding his connections with Bill Clinton, whose name and photographs appear in the financier's criminal case. Investigators were also left unanswered regarding whether Clinton visited Epstein's island, where investigators allege sexual violence against minors took place.
