The Revealed Picture is Not Encouraging: Petrosyan on Inspections at HEC Substations

Romanos Petrosyan, the acting manager of HEC, stated on his social media page that after the accident that occurred a month ago at the "Vardashen" substation, in addition to the two committees formed to conduct an internal investigation, another working group has been established. The mission of this group is to carry out comprehensive inspections at around 322 substations with a voltage of 110/35 kV operated by HEC across the entire territory of Armenia and to identify urgent and mid-term issues that require solutions.

According to him, the working group has already visited 222 substations and documented the existing problems, while inspections at the remaining 100 substations are scheduled to be completed in the coming 10-12 days.

Petrosyan noted that the picture revealed by the inspections is not encouraging: a significant portion of the substations are worn out, dilapidated, and morally obsolete. He emphasized that upgrading these infrastructures requires substantial resources; however, their implementation is essential in the shortest possible time to prevent potential energy crises due to the condition of the distribution network.

The post also includes photographs taken at several substations currently under voltage in Yerevan and various communities across the republic.
