US Prepares Plans to Invade Greenland, Reuters

The United States has not abandoned plans to invade Greenland militarily, Reuters reports citing sources.

“These comments have sown confusion and alarm in Washington and among US allies. Democrats and Republicans have begun to express concern. According to two sources familiar with the situation, the administration seems to be moving forward once again with a major military operation without prior consultation with Congress,” the report states.

At the same time, according to sources, lawmakers have informed Secretary of State Marco Rubio and senior White House officials about the possibility of impeaching President Donald Trump in the event of military intervention in Greenland.

However, despite a slight easing of tensions around the island and discussions between the US leader and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte about the possibility of purchasing the island, individuals close to the administration have assured that the military invasion of Greenland was never seriously considered.

Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. However, President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that the island should become part of the United States. Danish and Greenlandic authorities have warned Washington against invading the island, stating that they expect respect for their territorial integrity.
