US Plans to Strengthen Trust Between Russia and Europe
The US aims to build trust between Russia and Europe through de-escalation of tensions, reports Politico, referencing an anonymous official from the Trump administration.
“It is clear that there is currently a significant lack of trust between Europe and Russia, but we want to lay the groundwork for a new model that will allow us to start building trust by demonstrating a genuine de-escalation of tensions,” said the source.
According to the newspaper, consultations held in Abu Dhabi (UAE) between representatives from Russia, the US, and Ukraine largely focused on economic issues, as well as on the control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. “Both sides are beginning to understand what they stand to gain from peace, such as a program for Ukraine's prosperity and certain business opportunities for Russia with the United States,” Politico quoted the US official as saying.
