Lawsuit Filed Against Meta for Violating WhatsApp's Privacy

A group of plaintiffs from various countries has filed a lawsuit against Meta Corporation, alleging that the company has spread false information regarding the privacy and security of the WhatsApp messaging application. Bloomberg reports this news.

The lawsuit, presented in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, claims that Meta's assertions that its end-to-end encryption allows only the sender and receiver to access communications are false. The plaintiffs argue that Meta and WhatsApp can retain, analyze, and access almost all communications of users that are purportedly private.

Plaintiffs from Australia, Brazil, India, Mexico, and South Africa contend that the company misleads billions of WhatsApp users worldwide. Their allegations are based on information obtained from undisclosed whistleblowers.

A representative from Meta told Bloomberg that the lawsuit is baseless and that the claims suggesting that WhatsApp messages are not encrypted are entirely false and ridiculous.
