Canada Will Not Sign Free Trade Agreement with China
Canada will not sign a free trade agreement with China, says Carney.
“Canada cannot enter into a comprehensive trade agreement with China due to its commitments under the USMCA, the trilateral agreement between Canada, the U.S., and Mexico,” Carney stated, refuting suggestions raised by Trump's sharp response.
According to the Canadian Prime Minister, Ottawa's interactions with Beijing have been limited to resolving individual trade disputes that have accumulated in recent years. This particularly includes the supply of Chinese electric vehicles, agricultural products, and fishing goods.
He also emphasized that Canada fully honors its international obligations and has no intention of taking any steps that could jeopardize cooperation with the United States.
