National Assembly Adopts Amendments to Electoral Code
The National Assembly convened an extraordinary session on January 23 and adopted in the second reading the draft law on amendments and supplements to the Constitutional Law on the Electoral Code of the Republic of Armenia.
According to the voting results, 66 deputies voted in favor of the draft, 2 against, and there were no abstentions.
Presenting the draft, the main reporter and deputy from the 'Civil Contract' faction, Arusyak Julhakyan, noted that the current Electoral Code stipulates the requirement for political neutrality and impartiality of observers, but does not provide sufficient mechanisms for cases of violation of this requirement.
She stated that the legislative amendments propose that the Central Electoral Commission be authorized to initiate proceedings and revoke the accreditation of an observation mission in case of violations of the established requirements.
It is noteworthy that the 'Armenia' faction of the National Assembly boycotted the extraordinary session and left the hall.
