Heavy Snowfall and Poor Visibility Causes Road Closures
The Road Department reports that all inter-state and republican significance highways in Armenia are open. Due to adverse weather conditions, including heavy snowfall and lack of visibility, roads are being intermittently closed for safety considerations.
Organizations responsible for road maintenance continue to carry out snow clearing and treatment with salt and sand. Due to heavy snowfall, lack of visibility, and safety concerns, the roads from Noravank Junction to Shinuhayr Junction and towards Goris, Tatev are closed to all types of vehicles. The Noravank-Ltsen-Tatev highway is open to passenger vehicles only in the direction from Kapan to Sisian.
The Ttujur-Navur highway is closed to all types of vehicles. The roads from Jermuk Junction to Kapan, Vardenyats Pass, and Spitak Turns are closed to vehicles with trailers. Blizzards are affecting the Jambarak Pass, roads from Sevan Peninsula to the beginning of Dilijan Tunnel, as well as the roads in Aragatsotn and Hrazdan regions.
Snowfall is occurring in the regions of Ashtarak, Aparan, Aragats, Spitak, Vanadzor, Stepanavan, Tashir, Talin, Ani, Artik, Ahuryan, Aragats, Abovyan, Hrazdan, Dilijan, Ijevan, Noyemberyan, Jambarak, Ararat, Yeghegnadzor, Vayk, Sisian, and Goris.
There are patches of black ice on the roads in Aparan, Aragats, Sevan, Dilijan, Jambarak, Martuni, Gavar, Abovyan, Hrazdan, Nairi, Sisian, Goris, Ashotq, and Amasia regions.
