Araqchin Reports Death Toll from Protests
More than 3,000 people have died in recent unrest in Iran. This was reported by Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchin.
“Of these, more than 2,400 are civilians and security personnel, while 690 are terrorists,” Araqchin stated.
It is noteworthy that the protests in Iran initially began in late December 2025 due to the devaluation of the local currency, the Iranian rial. Later, protests in several Iranian cities escalated into riots and clashes with police, adopting a political nature in their slogans. Among the protesters were supporters of Reza Pahlavi, the son of the Iranian monarch who was overthrown in 1979.
The Supreme National Security Council of Iran has accused the United States and Israel of orchestrating the unrest in the Islamic Republic.
