Train Accident Near Barcelona Leaves Driver Dead
Another train accident has occurred in Spain, just two days after a major disaster in the south of the country claimed at least 42 lives. This incident took place in Catalonia, where a wall collapsed onto a suburban train car.
According to Claudi Galardó, a representative of the Catalonia firefighting service, one person has died and an additional 30 have sustained serious injuries. The accident happened near the town of Gelida, approximately 40 kilometers west of Barcelona.
According to the suburban rail operator in Catalonia, the deceased was an employee of the company, specifically the train driver. The cause of the accident was the collapse of a large wall due to a severe storm, which fell onto the railway tracks just as the train was passing.
Most of the injured passengers were in the first car, where debris from the wall landed. Emergency services reported that medical assistance was provided to a total of 37 victims, most of whom suffered minor injuries. One passenger had to be extracted from the severely damaged car.
Following the incident, local train services were suspended.
